about Pastel
Pastel is the most permanent of
all media, for it never cracks, darkens or yellows when framed properly
and protected by glass.
Pastel paintings are held in the
same regard as oil or watercolor as a major fine art medium.
Pastels dating back to the 16th
century exist today, as fresh and vibrant as the day they were first
introduced. Noted artists include Mengs, Nattier, Copley, Delacroix,
Millet, Manet, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Redon, Vuillard, Bonnard,
Glackens, Whistler and Hassam.
Pastel is powdered pigment, rolled
into round or square sticks and contained by methyicellulose, a
non-greasy binder.
